2011 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More power, more refinement. introductionthe ford mustang just keeps getting better. After a redesign for 2010, the 2011 mustang gets two new engines, as well as new transmissions and improvements to ride, handling, and noise. So the 2011 mustang represents a significant improvement over the superb 2010 edition of america's pony car, which was a large improvement over the 2004-2009 models, which was a major improvement over what came before that.  the mustang has been in continuous production for 46 straight years, and more than 9 million mustangs have been built and sold to date. That gives the mustang the longest production run of any single model in ford history.  the 2011 ford mustang comes in three body styles: coupe, convertible, and a glass-roof coupe. Each is available in both the traditional v6 model and the v8-powered mustang gt. Both engines are much more powerful this year.  the 3. 7-liter v6 replaces the old 4. 0-liter v6, the new one producing 305 horsepower versus just 210 horses from the older, bigger engine. The new v8 marks the return of the 5. 0. An new all-aluminum engine, the 5. 0-liter v8 in the mustang gt produces 412 horsepower, which is far more than the 315 horsepower of the outgoing 4. 6-liter v8. Both new engines for 2011 get new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions versus the five-speeds of 2010.  the ford shelby gt500 gains power for 2011, with a new aluminum version of the 5. 4-liter v8 producing 550 horsepower instead of the 500 ponies from the 2010 iron-block engine. We have not driven the new shelby gt500. Yet.  the 2011 engines transform the mustang, providing the type of willing power pony car fans will love while improving fuel economy at the same time. The engines are lighter and the car has more rigidity, so the already impressive handling is that much better.  the 2011 mustang is also quieter and more refined than ever, and, more importantly, it's an absolute blast to drive. It is quick off the mark with a brawny sound, crisp handling, a tight suspension, and much improved brakes. Put simply, this is the best mustang ever, and it is the model that other pony car makers should follow.  in addition to the new engines and transmissions, the 2011 mustang gets an additional front z brace and a revised suspension to improve ride quality while also improving handling; new safety features including ford's mykey system, power side mirrors with integral blind spot mirrors, and fold-down rear headrests; electric power steering meant to improve fuel economy while also aiding steering feel; and new features, such as a performance package for v6 models and available brembo brakes for the gt. lineupthe 2011 mustang is offered in v6 base and premium models, v8-powered gt base and premium models, and the supercharged v8-powered gt500, each in coupe and convertible body styles. V6 models use a new 3. 7-liter v6 that makes 305 horsepower. Gt models have a new 5. 0-liter v8 that produces 412 horsepower. The gt500s have an updated 5. 4-liter v8 that produces 550 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional 995) on all but the gt500.  the mustang v6 coupe 22,145) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, split folding rear seat, power mirrors, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, am/fm/cd player, auxiliary input jack, compass, outside-temperature indicator, theft-deterrent system, limited-slip differential, and p215/60r17 tires on alloy wheels.  the mustang v6 convertible 27,145) features a power convertible top and deletes the split-folding rear seat, but it is otherwise equipped the same as the coupe.  the mustang gt coupe 29,645) and mustang gt convertible 34,645) get everything above plus aluminum interior trim, automatic headlights, rear spoiler, fog lights, and p235/50wr18 front and 245/45wr18 rear tires. A brembo brake package 1,695) adds brembo brake calipers, reprogrammed electronic stability control that allows more leeway for performance driving, a tire mobility kit, and p255/40r19 tires.  premium versions of the v6 coupe 25,845) and v6 convertible 30,845) and gt coupe 32,845) and gt convertible 37,845) upgrade to leather upholstery, six-way power driver seat w/lumbar adjustment, aluminum interior trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shaker 500 am/fm/cd/mp3 audio, sirius satellite radio, ford sync entertainment and communications system, ipod adapter, wireless cell phone link, mycolor adjustable gauges, ambient lighting, and an automatic day/night rearview mirror.  the shelby gt500 coupe 48,645) and convertible 53,645) come with leather/alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, leather/alcantara upholstery, xenon headlights, sport suspension, brembo brakes, and p255/40zr19 front and 285/35zr19 rear tires. The gt500 does not have a split-folding rear seat. An svt performance package 3,495) for the shelby includes a 3. 73 rear axle ratio, unique shift knob, special exterior stripes, rear spoiler with gurney flap, performance suspension with unique springs and rear shocks, p265/40zr19 front and p285/35zr20 rear tires on painted forged aluminum wheels.  the v6 performance package adds a 3. 31 rear axle ratio; the front and rear stabilizer bars, front struts, and rear shocks and springs from the gt coupe; the rear lower control arm from the shelby gt500; 19-inch wheels with pirelli performance tires; the brake calipers from the mustang gt with performance friction pads; a strut tower brace; and electronic stability control calibration with a sport mode for performance driving. There's a sport appearance package 295) that just has the rear spoiler and body stripes.  the mustang club of america special edition 995) for the v6 premium adds p235/50zr18 tires on sterling gray metallic-painted alloy wheels, dark stainless painted billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, side tape stripes, decklid tape, rear spoiler, carpeted floormats with pony logo, and automatic headlights.  the california special 1,995) edition for the gt premium adds 19-inch painted alloy wheels, a chrome billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, unique lower front fascia with foglamps, pedestal spoiler, decklid badge with faux gas cap, instrument panel applique, carbon door panel inserts, carbon inserts for leather seating surfaces, carpeted floormats with logo, rear diffuser-style fascia, decklid tape and side scoops.  a navigation system with voice recognition and real-time traffic information, and dual-zone automatic climate control come with the electronics group 2,340). The comfort group 595) adds heated front seats and a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. With its 2010 redesign, ford gave a nod to the 1969-70 mustang with a new face that features a wider grille opening.  other elements of the redesign could be seen as tributes to the past. The coupe's fastback roofline, unchanged from the last generation, recalls the original 1964. 5 mustang. The chamfered three-element taillamps, which house sequential turn signals that blink from the inside lamp to the outside lamp, were first found on the 1964 thunderbird, then the 1967-68 shelby mustangs and late '60s mercury cougars. And the hockey stick lower character line could be viewed as an homage to the lower portion of the side coves found on mustangs from 1964 to '68.  compared to the last generation body style, ford said the 2010 mustang had 23 percent less aerodynamic lift at the front with a new slotted panel installed under the radiator to direct air, 50 percent better in front/rear lift balance, and seven percent less aerodynamic drag. For 2011, the company has lowered the front air dam and added a front splitter and an underbody aero shield to improve aerodynamics by another 4 percent.  ford took several steps to improve noise, vibration and harshness for the 2010 model year, and the company has done even more for 2011. Additional sound-deadening material on the instrument panel and a rear wheel arch liner help drivers hear the sounds they want (namely the engine) and avoid the sounds that can be a distraction (such as dash creaks and tire noise).  the 3453-pound mustang (3605 pounds for the gt) uses welded steel unibody construction with front and rear subframes to mount the steering and suspension systems, with almost half the body weight in high-strength low-alloy steel. It is by far the lightest of the new breed of pony cars, beating the camaro by 300 pounds and the dodge challenger by as much as 500 pounds. The weight savings are a definite advantage.  the convertible comes standard with a power top with a glass rear window. The top uses two latches that the driver must operate, but they're within arm's reach and they latch and unlatch easily. interioranyone who hasn't been in a mustang for a couple of years will want to take a look at the 2011 model. The interior was much improved for 2010 and there are even more improvements for 2011. The front bucket seats are significantly more comfortable and better looking than the slabs used in the 2009 models, though they could still use more lateral support. The aforementioned noise.

2011 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All are highly capable trucks, even those loaded with luxury features. The f-150 was completely redesigned for 2009. For 2011, ford f-150 features an entirely new engine lineup, and most 2011 f-150 models come with electric-assist steering.  smooth and quiet, the f-150 is comfortable on bumpy streets around town, over rugged terrain like construction sites, farms and utility roads, and on the open highway. Its steering is nicely weighted and requires little correction on the highway making it nice for long cross-country tows. Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required and keeps overhead down.  with one of the deepest beds in the segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,060 pounds; most versions carry 1,600-2,100 pounds. Any cab model f-150 can be optioned to tow more than 11,000 pounds; the range varies from 5,500-11,300 pounds. (the ford super duty line of heavy-duty pickups is covered in a separate new car test drive review.)  two v8 and two v6 engines are offered, all with six-speed automatic transmissions. Standard on 2wd is a 302-hp 3. 7-liter v6. Other choices include a 360-hp 5-liter v8 for all cab/bed configurations, a 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8 on supercrew short beds, and a 365-hp twin-turbo 3. 5-liter v6 on all but regular cab/short beds. Several axle ratios are offered with each engine.  a new 2011 f-150 xlt custom package slots between xlt and fx models. On the upper end are the king ranch, platinum and lariat limited models. The harley-davidson edition returns for 2011 with a 411-hp v8, the same engine now standard on the serious off-road raptor. Supercab trucks add higher fx and lariat trim to choices plus svt's raptor, and a short-bed option (about 5. 5 feet). A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty package. The supercrew f-150, available with either the short bed or standard bed, drops the stx grade and adds king ranch and platinum derivatives while harley-davidson and lariat limited are supercrew short bed only.  the f-150 xl (starting at $22,415) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. It comes with 3. 7-liter v6, 17-inch steel wheels, black bumper/grille/mirrors, and vinyl upholstery and floor covering. More equipment is available, including 18-inch wheels, sirius radio, sync, cruise control, fog lamps and power mirrors.  f-150 xlt (from $26,685) adds chrome for bumpers and trim, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, carpeting, cruise control, power windows and locks, and better cloth upholstery. All manner of options are available on the xlt, including three wheel diameters, tailgate step, cargo management and towing equipment.  f-150 fx4 and fx2 come with a 5-liter v8, black grille and body-colored bumpers, trim and mirrors. Options include infotainment and 17-inch (for more severe off-road use) or 20-inch wheels. Chrome trim and bumpers highlight monotone paint, and the lariat adds heated mirrors with signal repeaters and auto-dimming on the driver's and inside, dual-zone climate control, heated power leather seats with driver memory, leather wheel with redundant audio controls, tow package, sync, trip computer, and power adjustable pedals. Options include 20-inch wheels, heated/cooled front seats, sony sound and navigation, trailer brake controller, rear camera and park sensors, and moonroof.  f-150 king ranch (from $41,790) is like a lariat with a different attitude. It adds two-tone paint and kr badges, unique wheels, mesh chrome grille, chaparral leather heated and cooled power captain's chairs with driver memory, running boards, and power folding, heated, signal outside mirrors with chrome caps. Options are essentially limited to a limited-slip differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start.  f-150 platinum supercrew (from $43,600) gets a unique satin chrome grille, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captain's chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power folding/heated mirrors, and unique console. It comes only with the 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, and many features are standard on more expensive models. In addition, prices of options occasionally vary by trim level.  mechanical options include engine upgrades, alternate axle ratios, limited-slip or locking differentials, larger tires and upgraded wheels, skid plates, towing mirrors, snow plow prep (with 6. 2 v8), trailer brake controller 230), 36-gallon long-bed fuel tank, tailgate step, heavy-duty payload package, and ford works systems like an in-dash computer. Other upgrades include captain's chairs bucket seats with center console, power sliding rear window, rear-view camera (with or without navigation) reverse parking sensors, tri-coat or two-tone paint, moonroof 995), sirius radio, sound systems, remote start, and navigation.  safety features that come standard include antilock brakes, stability control (advancetrac rsc), trailer sway control, frontal airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Safety-related options include an integrated trailer brake controller, rear-view camera, mykey, and reverse park sensors. walkaroundthe angular lines of the ford f-150 mean it's easier to clean, easier to park, and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. Some bulge to the hood and large grille openings imply power, as does the higher altitude of 4wd models; many models have big graphics to ensure everyone knows what it is. The view rearward can be aided by extendable towing mirrors, a rear camera, and a power sliding rear window. We found the towing mirrors work very well.  pillars between the doors (called b-pillars) and the rear hand-hold on the pillar may yield an awkward blind spot for some drivers, but everyone should appreciate the windshield pillars (called a-pillars) shaped to help preserve forward vision.

2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

2006 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. By careful, we mean ford spent serious effort dotting the i's and crossing the t's, looking after the details that make all the difference. At the same time, ford realigned the models and overhauled the pricing structure, giving customers more truck for less money, nearly $4,000 less in some cases.  the new explorer is available with a v6 or v8. It's a traditional midsize suv with body-on-frame construction, and competes against the chevrolet trailblazer, jeep grand cherokee, toyota 4runner, and nissan pathfinder.  we were well pleased with the new steering, the new suspension, and the new brakes used on the 2006 model, all of which have improved by at least one order of magnitude. The new 2006 explorer is quieter than last year's model and it rides better. It also leans less in corners and the brakes are more responsive. The rear seats fold flatter than on last year's models and the interior has been improved throughout. lineupthe explorer lineup from bottom to top includes the xls 27,175), xlt 28,870), xlt sport 30,845), eddie bauer 30,845), and limited 33,160), with all prices reflecting the inclusion of the $645 destination and delivery charges. Ford is quick to point out that these suggested retail prices are from $675 to $3,900 lower than those for comparably equipped 2005 models, which don't benefit from all the improvements for 2006. The average price reduction is $1,750.  standard equipment on the xls includes the 4. 0-liter v6 engine and five-speed automatic, roll stability control (rsc), independent rear suspension, keyless entry, cruise control, message center, compass and thermometer, power windows, locks and mirrors, air conditioning, a floor console, rear vent windows and added 12-volt power point, a cargo management system, am/fm stereo with single cd or mp3 player, driver manual lumbar adjuster, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.  xlt adds a chrome grille, unique bumper and trim, power seat, fog lamps, puddle lamps, 16-inch tires and wheels, an overhead console and additional storage.  the eddie bauer version adds yet another grille design, running boards, roof rails, 17-inch wheels and tires, more wood and leather, 10-way power seat, message center and trip computer, and remote keyless entry. The eddie bauer is now split into two models, one with the luxury package added in and one without. The five-seater gains a flat load floor behind the second row of folding seats. Sirius satellite radio will be offered late in the model year. Dvd-based navigation is also available for about $1,500.  the standard safety package includes the automatic all-wheel-drive system and roll stability control, a system already in use at volvo and land rover, that intervenes with throttle and brakes when the vehicle senses an impending tipover situation. Seat side air bags, an new adaptive energy-absorbing steering column, a passenger classifier in the seat, and the tpms. Ford says this truck meets all known future safety standard for front and side crash through 2010. walkaroundthe new 2006 ford explorer looks like the f-150 pickup in front, with finer, scaled-down features. With the v8 engine, the new explorer is rated to tow up to a whopping 7,300 pounds. And it's rated to carry up to 1,500 pounds of payload. interioreverything inside the explorer is new for 2006. Every switch, button, face, texture and panel of the interior has been changed, changed to a much more modern, crisper presentation, one of ford design boss j mays's personal design campaigns brought to life. There is a dark wood for most models and darker, richer wood for the eddie bauer version. The graphics are accented with metal surrounds both shiny and matte, depending. On the downside, we saw a fair amount of glare reflected off the dash top onto the windshield of the early models we drove.  second-row seats are available as a 60/40 split bench seat, a 60/40 split bench with recline and third-row access, or two bucket seats and a console. The bucket seats are more comfortable for adults, but the bench seats fold down better for cargo.  the third row, when ordered, sits almost two inches higher than before so kids can see out better. The third row is always a 50/50 split, but is available with manual or power folding and unfolding.  and now the floor really is completely flat when all the seats are folded, with almost no forward rise (2 degrees as opposed to 10 before). The armrest is very large and filled with foam to assist in side crash protection, with the chrome latch pull rounded around the leading edge, but the door handle is buried underneath it, where the human wrist cannot comfortably go. Otherwise, the new explorer interior works very well.  the new seats are at once more supportive and more comfortable than the old, hard explorer seats, the colors and trims and combinations are elegant and tasteful, the metallic trims just about right, not overdone. driving impressiontwo new engines are available for the 2006 ford explorer. The 4. 0-liter single-overhead-cam v6 has been retuned with variable valve timing and is rated at 210 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. Both powertrains are quiet and smooth. The lighter v6 is a bit easier to turn and maneuver, but both are very pleasant, competent and quiet rides.  ford told us before we drove the truck that customers had demanded quieter operation from the new explorer, so they have used the body-on-frame design to maximum advantage to quiet the truck down, isolate it from the road, and halt the transmission of noise and vibration. In this respect, ford has done an exemplary job on the new truck. The ac system operates with 30 percent less noise yet moves and exchanges more air. Conversations are easily heard, the music sounds good, and the mirrors, with their new square corners defying aero logic, are mercifully quiet, as are the tires.  this is a big, heavy family truck with 15 years of continuous sales success and a few dark episodes behind it (involving previous-generation models), so they have utterly bathed it in safety equipment, from standard roll stability control (also used in volvo, land rover, and other ford truck products) to smart air bags to side air bags to an air curtain setup for the second and third rows. Ford says it expects a full house of five-star safety ratings, the highest possible, when the truck is tested.  the new steering on the 2006 explorer has a much heftier feel at highway speeds with plenty of assist for parking. The new suspension is one of the most supple we've driven on any suv in this big class. And the new brakes work much harder with much less pedal pressure and travel than before. Body roll is much better (the explorer leans less in corners), and the general feeling of being planted on earth is stronger on this new chassis. The new chassis is some 63-percent stiffer than before, and a stiff chassis is a key element for crisp handling and a smooth ride. This truck manages to be isolated from the road, but well connected to it, at the same time. summaryford is a lot better at trucks than cars these days, and with the new explorer, they have shown just how good they.

2010 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Comprehensive line of superb pickups. introductionthe ford f-150 is the best-selling pickup in america. All are highly capable trucks, even those loaded with luxury features. The f-150 was completely redesigned for 2009. So for 2010, changes are limited to packaging.  smooth and quiet, the f-150 is comfortable on bumpy streets around town, over rugged terrain such as that found at construction sites, and on the open road. Its steering is nicely waited and requires little correction on the highway making it nice for long cross-country tows. Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required and keeps overhead down.  with one of the deepest beds in the segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,030 pounds. A properly equipped regular cab f-150 is rated to tow up to 11,300 pounds; other models max out in the 9,000-pound range. (the ford super duty range of heavy-duty pickups is covered in a separate new car test drive review.)  three v8 engines are offered. It is rated at 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet on gasoline (epa 14/20 mpg) and 320 horsepower and 390 pound-feet on e85 with mileage dropped to 10/14 mpg. The mykey programmable vehicle key is standard on all models except the base xl trim level. Supercab trucks add higher fx4 and lariat trim levels, and a short-bed option (about 5. 5 feet) on all but xl models. The flareside bed can not be combined with xl or lariat supercabs. A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty 5. 4-liter package. The supercrew f-150, available with either the short or standard bed, drops the stx grade and adds king ranch and platinum derivatives.  the f-150 xl 21,380) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels, black bumper/grille/mirrors, and vinyl upholstery and floor covering. More equipment is available, including 18-inch wheels, sirius radio, sync, cruise control, fog lamps and power mirrors.  xlt (from $25,575) adds chrome for bumpers and trim, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, carpeting, cruise control, power windows and locks, better cloth upholstery and, on longer cabs, the three-valve 4. 6-liter v8 and six-speed automatic transmission. All manner of options are available on the xlt, including three sizes of wheels, tailgate step, cargo management and towing equipment.  fx4 (from $35,090) comes with a black grille and body-colored bumpers, trim and mirrors. Options include 20-inch wheels, heated/cooled front seats, sony sound and navigation, trailer brake controller, rear camera and park sensors, and moonroof.  king ranch (from $40,200) is like a lariat with a different attitude. It adds two-tone paint and kr badges, unique wheels, mesh chrome grille, chaparral leather heated and cooled power captain’s chairs with driver memory, running boards, and power folding, heated, signal outside mirrors with chrome caps. Options are essentially limited to a limited-slip differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start.  platinum supercrew (from $42,075) gets a unique satin chrome grille and the only one not styled as three sections, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captain’s chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power folding/heated mirrors, and unique console. It will start with the 310-hp 5. 4-liter v8 and later get a high-performance engine option, a 6. 2-liter v8 of about 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. But it is the long-travel high-performance suspension, wheels and tires that set it apart, and the assertive styling.  the f-150 option list is comprehensive and, although it has been simplified in recent years, it can still resemble the tax code to the uninitiated; there are, for example, three codes for a sliding rear window and five for trailer towing mirrors. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, and many features are standard on more expensive models. In addition, sometimes the prices of the options vary by trim level.  mechanical options include upgrades to either the three-valve 4. 6 engine or the 5. 4-liter, alternate axle ratios, limited-slip differential, larger tires and upgraded wheels, electric-shift 4wd, skid plates, towing mirrors, snow plow prep, trailer brake controller, 35-gallon long-bed fuel tank, tailgate step, heavy-duty payload package, and ford works systems like an in-dash computer. Other upgrades include captain's chairs bucket seats with center console, power sliding rear window, rear-view camera, reverse parking sensors, dual-coat or two-tone paint, moonroof, sirius radio, sound systems, remote start, and navigation.  safety features that come standard include antilock brakes, stability control (advancetrac rsc), trailer sway control, frontal airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags.
